Luck O’ The Irish Online Casino Slot Review

We have been waiting a while for it to come around, but its appearance was inevitable right from the start. That’s right, it’s time for an Irish themed online slot from Blueprint Gaming, and it comes to us in the form of Luck O’ The Irish. Pretty much every developer has tried their hand at the genre, often making attempts at stealing some of the thunder of Rainbow Riches from Barcrest, which is quite possibly the most popular slot game that the UK has ever seen. What we do know is that nobody has really managed to even come close, but if anyone could, Blueprint would be a name in the frame. Even if it turns out to be a tier below Rainbow Riches in quality terms, there’s certainly no shame in that, so let’s get ourselves right into the action to see what this one has in store.

The Style and Base Gameplay

The Irish theme on the slots basically speaks for itself, and developers have always been fond of using what we would have to consider as being fairly stereotypical symbols. Here on Luck O’ The Irish, Blueprint has opted to go with playing card icons and some very lucky Irish symbols to go along with them, including clovers, pints of Guinness and lucky horseshoes.

The board on the game is bigger than normal, with four rows of symbols, and that translates into a decent number of win lines too, with forty of them in play. That number is adjustable, but we wouldn’t necessarily recommend doing so, as the wins come along pleasantly regularly with things left on the default settings. The wild card is a pot of gold, and it works nicely with the full number of win lines on the board due to the fact that it can land in stacks and cover entire reels.

Features and Extras

What truly makes Rainbow Riches the special game that it is would have to be the sheer number of bonus features on offer throughout the game, and that is where Blueprint has opted to take things in a slightly different direction on Luck O’ The Irish. Indeed, they have chosen here to bank on just a single feature, and it is the most unsurprising feature of all as it comes along in the form of free spins. Players will be on the lookout for the Luck O’ The Irish logo as the scatter symbol, and you’ll need to land it on reels two, three and four at the same time in order to get things underway.

The reels used for these free spins are a bit different to those used for the base game, and see a gold coin being added to the board. It doesn’t always land, but it can do so in stacks, and when it does so, the gold coins will all turn into a matching, randomly chosen symbol that will have a good chance of improving the current board state, even if there are no guarantees.

There is not a huge number of spins on offer to start with, with players only having five of them to play through initially. It can still make for some good returns, and there is always a chance of landing more spins while the round is already in action, just as long as you’re lucky enough to land another set of three scatters across reels two, three and four.

Our Thoughts on Blueprint Gaming's Luck O’ The Irish

First things first, we can get the Rainbow Riches comparison out of the way early. Simply put, Luck O’ The Irish lacks the breadth of features and bonuses to compete, and is simply not on the level of that game. However, even the best games can get a bit repetitive and if you’re a fan of the Irish theme then this one has the potential to offer something slightly different and still want some potentially lucrative wins, this slot can fill the gap. It boasts all of the hallmarks of quality that we have come to expect from Blueprint, and the Irish theme may actually be a negative as it brings this slot into direct competition with one of the most successful games around – in a battle that it was never likely to win. As a standalone slot, it is a fun game and a very enjoyable one to play, and we are still happy to recommend it to our readers.
